Field Trips

Fort McKavett housed various infantry and cavalry units, including regiments of Buffalo Soldiers – African American troops who played an important role in the settlement of West Texas.

Students, scouts, camps and families will have the opportunity to learn about both science and history in this  interdisciplinary environment. The Museum also houses the Noble Planetarium; and the Omni, the first IMAX® theater of its kind in the Southwest.

The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge is a natural area comprised of forests, prairies, and wetlands allowing visitors to step back in time and experience what the Fort Worth/Dallas Metroplex was like in the early 20th century.

The Frontiers of Flight Museum focuses on early flight to modern space exploration thru exhibits and activities on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics principles to the area of aviation and space flight.

The Galveston Children’s Museum is filled with fun and entertaining interactive exhibits and hands-on programming for ages 2-10, though many activities.

Galveston Island State Park protects 2,000 acres of upper Gulf Coast barrier island ecosystem. Visitors can swim, fish, picnic, bird watch, hike, mountain bike, paddle, camp, geocache, study nature with a park ranger or just relax!

At the Galveston Naval Museum, take a self guided Naval Museum tour through the USS Cavalla Submarine & USS Stewart Destroyer Escort. Experience the history, mystery and sacrifices of the crews standing watch on these WWII fighting vessels.

The Gary Halter Nature Center is a 2,400 square-foot facility that includes a meeting room, outdoor classroom, amphitheater, native plant displays and a monarch butterfly garden.

The Bush Presidential Library and Museum promotes an understanding of the American presidency, examines the specific time in history during which President Bush served thru official records and artifacts.

The George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum’s core exhibits reveal the unique influences and challenges that shaped George Bush’s life and presidency.

The George Washington Carver Museum exhibits historical and cultural materials reflective of persons of African descent living in Austin and the United States.

Gladys Porter Zoo is a zoological and botanical park on 31 acres with 377 species of animals and 255 species of tropical plants from Africa, Asia, Tropical America, and Indo-Australia.
