Fort Concho National Historic Landmark

Fort Concho National Historic Landmark & Fort Concho Museum seeks to preserve the fort period structures, site features, and archeological information; maintain and develop the museum/ interpretive center illustrating fort period history, its presence and its effects; and serve a functional and educational purpose benefiting the San Angelo community, the state of Texas and the nation at large. Fort Concho traces the American military experience from the end of the Civil War to the turn of the 20th century through various exhibits, displays, and artifacts. Comprised of 23 original and restored structures, the site’s tour buildings are presented with a mixture of original and replica furnishings, equipment and artillery. Six fort structures represent various building interiors from the 1870s and 1880s, while a modern Living History Stable houses wagons and space for equines. From field trips and tours to summer events for kids, Fort Concho has been offering educational programs for students for over 40 years. Schools throughout the Concho Valley and across Texas come to Fort Concho to explore our buildings and experience what it was like to live at a frontier fort in West Texas during the late 1800s. Docents/guides will be dressed in period clothing and will interpret several fort buildings for tours for school, scout, homeschool and camp groups.
