Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site sits on a marshy point, located off the Ashley River, where a group of English settlers landed in 1670 and established what would become the birthplace of the Carolina colony.

The Charleston Museum document the city’s history through the Revolutionary and Civil wars, and exotic objects from around the world, including artifacts, fossils, historic crafts, textiles, and silver.

Come discover Colonial America in Charleston, SC. Constructed in 1738, Drayton Hall is America’s oldest preserved colonial home open to the public.  Programs include, life in Colonial America, US history, and slavery.

Fort Sumter is where the American Civil War began. Exhibits at the Visitor Education Center focus on the growing sectionalism between the North and the South, and how the conflict at Fort Sumter began the Civil War.

Founded in 1676 by the Drayton family, Magnolia Plantation has survived for centuries and witnessed the history of our nation from the American Revolution through the Civil War and beyond.

Today McLeod Plantation is an important 37-acre Gullah Geechee heritage site that’s been carefully preserved in recognition of its cultural and historical significance.

White Point Garden is located in the heart of the historic district downtown. This park provides beautiful views of Fort Sumter and of the Charleston Harbor.
