The Avery Research Center preserves the history of African-Americans in the Charleston area through a museum, an historic site, and extensive archives.

Serving South Carolina’s Lowcountry, the Charleston Gaillard Center provides cultural, educational performing arts experiences for middle and high school groups.

Charleston Stage offers shortened performances (70 minutes in length), which fit perfectly into the school day. Past performances have included adaptations from children’s books, history, and more.

Visit the Charleston Symphony Orchestra with your youth group or have them come to your school. Students will learn about the individual instruments and classical music during Young People’s Concerts, and Q&A with musicians.

Hahal Kadosh Beth Elohim is one of the fifth oldest Jewish congregations in the United States, and its synagogue is a national landmark. Volunteer docents lead tours exploring the historic Sanctuary and share its unique history.

Heyward-Washington House is a historic house museum and former home to Thomas Heyward, Jr., a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence. Reservations are required for groups.

The Mace Brown Museum of Natural History houses over 15,000 fossils, showcasing a world-class exhibit on fossil whales and their evolution.

Groups will discover 18th and 19th century plantation life. Visit the stableyards, see costumed craftspeople working as weavers, carpenters, potters, and blacksmiths, and encounter heritage breeds of animals at Middleton on 65 acres of formal landscaped gardens and the historic 1755 Middleton House.

Nathaniel Russell House Museum is an excellent location for groups wanting to learn about Charleston during the Antebellum period.

Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon highlights various aspects of 17th/18th century history, the Revolutionary War, the Constitution and local history. Discover this building’s integral role in our country’s quest for independence.
