Field Trips

The Holtsville Ecology Site and Animal Preserve includes a nature preserve and ecology center, featuring Buffalo, Bobcats, Eagles, ecology exhibits and tours, free compost, greenhouses, picnic area.

Thomas School of Horsemanship is located on 33 beautiful acres, with 6 barns, 9 riding rings, several picnic areas, and much more, offering groups a variety of activities for class and scout trips.

Visit the birthplace of the great American poet Walt Whitman where groups will tour the poet’s home and visit the Interpretive Center where they can engage with Whitman’s poetry through various exhibits.

Groups can take a field trip to the Water Mill Museum to take a tour of the water-powered grist mill. Youth will learn how corn is ground and about ice harvesting.

At either of Woodside Orchards locations, groups can enjoy a field trip to pick their own apples during the fall. The orchard offers over 28 different varieties of apples.
