Cradle of Forestry

At the Cradle of Forestry groups can explore the past, present, and future of environmental sustainability and stewardship. Features interpretive trails, interactive exhibits, guided tours and nature programs.

CSS Neuse Museum

The CSS Neuse Museum displays the remains of the CSS Neuse, a Civil War ironclad, and exhibits about life in eastern North Carolina during the war.

Cummins Planetarium

Cummins Planetarium features a full-dome video projection system. The planetarium features a thirty-foot dome, tilted forward slightly to maximize viewing for audiences of up to 50 people.

Currituck Beach Lighthouse

Currituck Beach Lighthouse was the last of four beacons positioned from Cape Henry, Virginia to Cape Hatteras, filling the “dark spot” on North Carolina’s coast. Groups can climb the 214 steps all the way to the top of the lighthouse to see breathtaking views of the surrounding area below.

Duke Homestead State Historic Site and Tobacco Museum

Visit the historic site where George Washington Duke grew tobacco and started one of the largest American tobacco companies. The homestead offers guided house tours with a look at museum exhibits on the tobacco industry, the history of tobacco, and a 17-minute orientation film.

ECSU Kahn Planetarium

Go beyond the galaxy on a field trip to the Kahn Planetarium, also known as ECSU Kahn Planetarium. Their 30-foot dome provides educational experiences and the planetarium features a SPITZ 512 Star Projector, disc players, two laser light systems, and more.
