FIELD TRIPS

The Longhorn Project’s Center for Agriculture, Science, and Engineering is dedicated to preserving Texas heritage and inspiring students through hands on agriculture and STEM educational field trips. Located at NASA Johnson Space Center, the program immerses students in Texas longhorn history and genetics, agriculture, native plants and habitats, soil, pollination, the food web, and space exploration. Together, these fully interactive lessons create a unique learning environment that connects students to the natural world and the science that sustains it.

The Longhorn Project Johnson Space Center

The Longhorn Project’s Center for Agriculture, Science, and Engineering, located on a 20 acre site at the NASA Johnson Space Center, features open pastures with a herd of Texas longhorn cattle, a working barn, an outdoor classroom pavilion, a classroom with a science lab, gardens with diverse plant life, a greenhouse, and a patio with a waterfall and a pond stocked with goldfish and aquatic plants. Together, these features create an immersive setting for hands on agriculture and STEM learning.

FIELD TRIPS

The Longhorn Project’s agriculture and STEM curriculum provides Scouts with engaging, hands on experiences that support requirements for badges in animal science, environmental stewardship, gardening, sustainability, and scientific exploration. Through activities involving Texas longhorn care, native plants, habitats, soil science and pollination, Scouts complete requirements for badges. These immersive lessons help Scouts advance while deepening their understanding of agriculture, ecology, and the natural world.
