Naval Station Norfolk, supporting the US Atlantic Fleet, is one of the largest naval bases in America. Visitors can take a 45 minute tour to see aircraft carriers, destroyers, amphibious assault ships.

Visit the home of Joseph Thomas Newsome, the first African-American attorney in post-Civil War Newport News. Honor the legacy of Mr Thomas thru remembrance of African American history and culture.

With over 60 different gardens to explore, the Norfolk Botanical Garden showcase local flora or from different parts of the world.  The WOW Children’s Garden offers opportunities for learning and exploration.

Discover the skies at the NSU Planetarium. From the facility, Dr. Carlos Salgado controls the observatory’s Rapid Response Robotic Telescope. Regularly scheduled planetarium shows are offered during the academic year.

Cape Henry Lighthouse is the first federally funded public works project of the newly formed United States government. Visitors can climb the tower, explore historic Cape Henry or enjoy Dune Talks.

Paradise Creek Nature Park is a national model for urban river restoration, showing how industry, nature, and art can co-exist in harmony.

With its mix of emerging artwork and exhibits that explore cross-disciplinary topics, the Peninsula Fine Arts Center encourages critical thinking in art. The Center features gallery games, writing, and touchable materials.

The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts is one of the most acoustically sound venues in the United States. The Center offers morning student matinees as well as family friendly performances.

Historic Smith’s Fort Plantation was gifted as a dowry from Powhatan after John Rolfe’s marriage to Pocahontas. Exhibits tell the stories of captain John Smith, John Rolfe, Pocahontas, Chief Powhatan and the Jamestown colonists.

Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts houses a 500 seat theater–the stage for concerts, ballets, musicals, dramatic works, symphony performances, films, children’s plays, lectures and so much more.

At Surry Nuclear Information Center, visitors can find out how a nuclear power station works. See models of a nuclear reactor and the containment structure. Generate your own electricity using muscle power.

The Virginia Air & Space Center features interactive aviation exhibits spanning 100 years of flight, more than 30 historic aircraft, a hands-on space exploration gallery, unique space flight artifacts, and more.
