The Galveston Railroad Museum, an immersive living history museum, offers the opportunity to explore 5 acres of railyard, and invites you to enjoy the fully restored 1932 Train depot, numerous educational interactive activities including a step inside a railroad post office, sleeping cars, dining and baggage cars, model trains, and rotating exhibits featuring the nation’s largest collection of Railroad Porcelain China and Silver, Legacy of the Railroad, History of the Pullman Porter, a rare calendar collection and extensive art collection. Railroading films are shown in the auditorium. Prominent life sized sculptures titled Ghosts of Travelers Past depict depot passengers of another era and vintage telephone booths invite you to lift a handset to overhear conversations with travelers. In addition to Docent tours, curriculum is available for field trips, homeschool groups, and sensory experiences for autistic individuals. The Harborside Express Caboose rides runs weekends, weather permitting, and is available for groups by reservation. Visitors enjoy Self-Guided, Sensory, or Docent Tours upon request.
