Sweetbriar Nature Center offers educational opportunities for all ages, either at the nature preserve or at your facility. Whether you want your students to learn about metamorphosis and butterflies, explore the treasures of the tropical rain forest or examine predator/prey relationships, Sweetbriar has the program for you! Their programs are designed to involve participants through the use of live animals, hands-on activities and interactive experiences. Students will gain a better understanding and respect for the natural world.

Sweetbriar Nature Center

Sweetbriar Nature Center is situated on 54 acres of varied garden, woodland, field and wetland habitats on the Nissequogue River. Hundreds of species of plants and animals make homes here. The Center is a private not-for-profit corporation which exists to provide natural science education services for Long Island residents of all ages and to engage in native wildlife rehabilitation services. Through education and examples, ECSS encourages responsible decision making, appreciation, and respect for the unique wildlife and ecosystems found on Long Island.

Scouts

Our scout programs are designed to give children an exciting learning experience through: Hands-on activities, Interaction with live animals, Participatory activities and games, Badge counselors on staff. Scouts will leave with a better understanding and appreciation for the natural world. Programs can be adapted to include badge requirements or tailored to fit your group’s needs. Service hour projects are available. Groups can create individual service projects for Life and Eagle Scouts, Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards or group service projects. Programs include “Threatened Wildlife,” “Dragons Turtles, and Serpents,” “Treasures of the Rain Forest,” “Discovering Nature,” and more. Bring your scout groups to Sweetbriar for Take Action Project opportunities, on-on-one advice from a naturalist, skill building, and other badge programs.
