SCHOOL GROUP FIELD TRIPS
The New Britain Museum of American Art offers student-centered interdisciplinary school visits created to enrich curricula and engage students in dialogue and discussion while looking at works of art in the galleries and engaging in exploratory art projects in the American Savings Foundation Art & Education Center.
For our young learners, the Museum offers tailored tours designed to introduce children to the museum experience. These 60-minute classes incorporate close-looking in the galleries, thematically related stories and conversation prompts, and a hands-on art project. Tours are best suited for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and 1st grade classes/students.
For elementary, middle school, and high school groups, the Museum offers a selection of hour-long guided tour themes and related studio activities. Educators could also choose a self-guided tour option. Museum tours connect directly to Core Arts Standards and core curricula subjects.

FUN FACTS
– Vincent Van Gogh created over 2,000 works during his lifetime. However, he was only ever able to sell one of his paintings while he was alive.
– Leonardo Da Vinci was left-handed. He took notes from right-to-left instead of the English language standard left-to-right.
– Pablo Picasso was arrested and questioned regarding the theft of Mona Lisa in 1911. He was released without being charged.
– In late 1961, Henri Matisse’s painting “Le Bateau” was hung upside down at the Museum of Modern Art in New York for 46 days before anyone noticed.

FAMILY OUTINGS
The New Britain Museum of American Art has three family-friendly spaces included with your Museum admission. Create your own art project in the Stanley Black & Decker Makerspace, cuddle up together in the Art & Book Nook, and explore and climb on the many sculpted benches throughout the galleries. Stay for lunch in the Museum Cafe, shop in the Museum Store, and then take a stroll through the sculpture garden and historic Walnut Hill Park.
