John J. McCarthy Observatory

The McCarthy observatory is a state-of-the-art facility open to both researchers and the public. The Observatory's facilities include a 16-ft. dome observation deck, control room, library, and an outdoor observing deck with 4 telescopes. The Observatory's primary instrument is a 6” Meade Schmidt Cassegrain telescope, with several other telescopes available; as well as a solar filter for viewing solar events. Visitors can explore the six-mile outdoor “true-scale” solar system, and rest in Galileo’s Garden which contains a replica of Galileo’s first telescope.
