Field Trips

The hands-on Spartanburg Science Center features the StarLab Planetarium; live animals; and natural history collections. Virtual learning resources are available.

At the Spartanburg Youth Theatre, students see children’s classics and originals such as Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and others performances onstage.

Stewart Farms is a working farm and nursery that provides a unique, fun, educational activity that exposes children to “agriculture in the process.” Trip activities include fun on the hayrides and in the pumpkin patches.

Strawberry Hill USA grows peaches, strawberries, blackberries, and pumpkins. Visitors will learn about plant and animal science, and also visit with farm animals.

Swan Lake Iris Gardens is the only public park in the United States to feature all eight swan species, and floral attractions include the Japanese Iris.

Table Rock State Park is a 3,083-acre park at the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and home to Pinnacle Mountain, the tallest mountain in the state. Visitors may enjoy cabins, a campground and two lakes.

The Museum and Railroad Historical Center offers visitors a time machine to dress in period clothing and experience life in the 1900s in relation to science and technology. 

The Sustainable Carolina Garden produces organically grown foods while regenerating soil and building biodiversity within the community. Visitors learn about how to make fresh, local produce part of their everyday lives.

Thompson Farm and Nursery is a fun and historically rich farm for field trips where visitors learn all about the history of farming in South Carolina. Groups can explore local crops, go on a wagon ride and pick pumpkins in the fall.

Featuring rotating exhibits of the Johnson Collection, TJC Gallery allows youth groups to explore South Carolina’s art history. Groups will view paintings and sculpture from women in the art world, African-American artists, and more.

Trail Blazer Survival School & Adventure teaches basic and advanced outdoor wilderness survival skills such as shelter building, firecraft, and navigation.

Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge encompasses a diverse habitat including a blackwater river swamp, alluvial river floodplain, forested wetlands and longleaf pine ecosystems.
