Columbus, the largest city in Ohio, is the state capital. It is located in central Ohio on the Scioto River, it is a port of entry and a major commercial, distribution, and cultural center. The first structures near the site of downtown Columbus were earthen mounds constructed by Indian tribes known as Mound Builders. The state capital was laid out nearby in 1812 and named after Christopher Columbus. It became the capital in 1816.

Malabar Farm State Park and Museum

Today, visitors can see the Farm, tour the Big House, hike nature trails, drive atop Mt. Jeez, and participate in recreational activities. As a working farm, you can meet a variety of animals raised on the farm.

Ohio Craft Museum

The Ohio Craft Museum is a program of Ohio Designer Craftsmen, presenting five major exhibitions each year, as well as focus exhibits and a rotating display of the permanent collection. In addition, the museum houses the Craft Research Library and offers educational workshops.

Ohio History Museum & Ohio Village

The Ohio History Center is a history museum and research center and is the primary museum for Ohio’s history. It is also the headquarters, offices, and library of the Ohio History Connection. Their mission is to spark the discovery of Ohio’s stories. Also, part of center is the living history experience at the Ohio Village.

Orton Geological Museum

The Orton Geological Museum is located at The Ohio State University, part of the School of Earth Sciences. At the Museum, visitors explore rocks, minerals, and fossils from Ohio, from around the world, and from outer space!

The Central Ohio Fire Museum & Learning Center

The 1908 engine house, now the Central Ohio Fire Museum & Learning Center offers firefighting history exhibits & fire safety education programs for all ages.
