Mobile Alabama is a historic port city, situated on the Mobile River and Mobile Bay along the Gulf Coast. Founded in 1702 by French colonists, it is the oldest city in Alabama and the birthplace of Mardi Gras in the United States. Known as the "Azalea City," it is a major economic hub with the state’s only deep-water port, a strong manufacturing sector (including aerospace), and a rich cultural blend of French, Spanish, and Creole influences. Mobile has several art museums, a symphony orchestra, professional opera, professional ballet company, and a large concentration of historic architecture.

Phoenix Fire Museum

The Phoenix Fire Museum houses horse-drawn steam engines and early motorized vehicles. The gallery on the Second Floor recounts the history of the volunteer fire companies of Mobile.
