ABOUT

American Wind Power Center and Museum

The mission of the American Windmill Museum as an educational organization is to help diverse audiences explore the ways in which people have used and continue to use their human ingenuity in harnessing the wind to live in varied environments. The Wind Energy Experience Center showcases the Wingen turbine, an electric producing wind turbine that was manufactured in Lubbock, Texas in the 1970’s. This model is interactive, with a button that can be pushed, and it will run through as complete blade pitching cycle. It also houses several more of our historic turbines, some dating back to the 1920’s.

On the 28 acre park grounds sits over 70 historic windmills. Some of these mills actually pump water from a well and others are set up to recirculate water from a tank, while others are simply showing their historic beauty.
