OUTREACH

There’s no better way to learn than by doing. This is the foundation of NYC Outward Bound Schools’ leadership development and team-building programs. These thoughtfully led programs are hands-on and involve a series of experiences that help build self-esteem, communication skills, and leadership ability. Participants take on challenges that encourage them to plan, problem-solve using available resources, innovate or engineer a new solution, work together despite individual differences, and practice time management. Activities vary based on program needs and goals, but may include tasks such as kaizen (continuous improvement), egg drops (requires packaging a raw egg that will have to sustain 60 ft. drop), or school-building simulations (teams negotiate for available resources to build their own school). Team-building programs can be conducted at conference and retreat centers, hotels, local parks, the client’s premises, or at NYC Outward Bound Schools’ headquarters in Long Island City. If interested, please complete the registration form.

ABOUT

NYC Outward Bound Schools

NYC Outward Bound Schools transforms schools and changes lives by bringing its educational approach to NYC’s young people and their public schools, with a focus on students from educationally underserved communities. NYC Outward Bound’s educational approach joins together demanding and engaging learning, community, and character in ways that lead to high achievement for all. NYC Outward Bound operates a citywide network of public schools in partnership with the NYC Department of Education that fully embody its educational approach. Its Network Schools use the national EL Education model, which is rooted in Outward Bound, and also feature intensive supports around college access and preparation, as well as leadership and character-building programming for students. NYC Outward Bound also brings its approach and the most effective and replicable practices to a growing number of public schools and youth-serving organizations outside of its network through Adventure & Team Building programs and Select Strategies professional learning services. Since its founding more than 30 years ago, NYC Outward Bound Schools has helped to bring out the best in more than 100,000 students, preparing them for success in college, careers and citizenship, while simultaneously working to redefine what educational excellence looks like in NYC’s public schools.

So what have you done for a tree lately? Nature centers and state parks provide a hands-on environment to discover facts about native plants and animals, as well as ways to preserve these natural resources.
