Did you know it is acceptable to belch and slurp your food in China? In Japan, leaving a bite of rice in your bowl is a polite way to say, “Seconds, please.” Eating with your hands is proper in Kenya, though you should remember to use your left hand. When taking your students out for a meal, try discussing the purpose of etiquette rules, who created them, and how they differ from culture to culture.
