FIELD TRIPS
The Battleship offers guided tours for schools, educational programs, and fun activities. Students will have the opportunity to meet and interact with a veteran, go on a museum scavenger hunt, create ship art, watch short video clips of oral histories from those who served, examine primary source documents, and more. Programs focus on topics in history, language arts, science, and math. Overnight experiences aboard the ship allow students to learn first-hand what it’s like to be a sailor. Meal options are available for your field trip, or eat brown-bagged lunches on the Crew’s Mess Deck! (Best for students in grades 3rd-12th.)
Little Sailors Group Tour: Perfect for students ages 6 to 8, this tour takes approximately an hour and features the 16-inch Gun Turret I, the Officers’ Wardroom, Executive Officers Cabin, Admiral’s Barge, Helicopter, and more. There’s only one ladder (stairs for your landlubbers) for the kids to navigate. The tour includes “Sailor Says,” a Navy version of the Simon Says game.

The award-winning Overnight Encampment Program for groups of ages 8-18, includes dinner and breakfast served from the "chowline,” a ride in the Flight Simulator, a guided tour of the ship, and the chance to sleep in the bunks that the crew of the USS New Jersey once did! FAMILY OUTINGS
The largest battleship ever built, nearly three football fields long and over 11 stories high. Commissioned for service during World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Korean War, the Battleship New Jersey is America’s most decorated battleship and surviving warship.
A self-guided tour takes visitors five levels up and two decks below. The Main Deck features an Exhibit/Museum that encompasses the 48 years in and out of service. Guides are available for questions and conversations in the Captain’s Quarters and Combat Engagement Center (CEC). The tour also includes two extended guided experiences,: an Engineering “Steam to Speed” Tour that lets you walk through a portion of an engine room and a Turret II Tour that shows you how the crew loaded and fired the massive 16-inch gun turret that shot a 2,000lb projectile 23 miles away – accurately.
