The Claytor Nature Center, 18th century farm and plantation house, serves as an education center for environmental study. It encompasses streams, woodlands, wetlands, grasslands, plants and wildlife and a portion of the Big Otter River.

The Science Museum of Western Virginia encourages learners to investigate the world using the scientific method and experimentation. View the museum’s virtual resources.

The Museum offers eleven galleries as part of the Fralin Center for American Art and originates 15-20 exhibitions per year. Notice the design of the museum by Randall Stout, that reflects the naturalistic elements of the Roanoke region.

The Virginia Children’s Theatre is the only professional children’s theatre in the region and produces three targeted literary plays and one issue-based play per year.

The State operates nine fish cultural stations around the state. These are categorized as either “rearing stations,” or “hatcheries” that stock Virginia waters. Visitors to the hatcheries learn about production, from hatching to raising to stocking sizes. Learn about a location near you.

Virginia State Parks are models of conservation and recreation programs for school, scout, camp and homeschool groups and family outings.
