Hands-on educational programs at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts give students the chance to delve into a variety of subjects. Students will learn about Chinese art and culture as they listen to Chinese music, create brush paintings, and more. Traditional Middle Ages and Renaissance dance, song, and Commedia dell’Arte will come to life for students while visiting the Rosen House, learning about falconry from Caramoor’s resident falconer, and viewing the center’s extensive art collection. Teaching musicians will discuss their instruments and lead small groups of students through the process of composing and performing a song. Tours of the Rosen House and gardens are lead by a professional architect, and can include a fun scavenger hunt. Lectures are also available for college students.

A variety of musical genres are represented at the center, including Classical, Jazz, Folk, Blues, and Opera, so stay for a performance as well! Venues include the Spanish Courtyard, Venetian Theater, Sunken Garden and more. Caramoor hosts a variety of events throughout the year such as afternoon tea, a jazz festival, and other happenings. A concert is a live music performance in front of an audience. The performance may be by a single musician, sometimes then called a recital, or by a musical ensemble, such as an orchestra, choir, or band, before recorded music, concerts provided the main opportunity to hear musicians play.

Field trips to music concerts bring lessons on famous composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Chopin, and more to life. Groups will be able to hear and feel the music these composers created long ago while seated in world renowned concert halls.

Scouts

Scouts can work on a variety of requirements for Art, Architecture, Animal Science, and Music badges on field trips to Caramoor. Scout groups will learn about the culture of China while listening to live Chinese music, get artsy while creating brush paintings, and more. Scouts can explore traditional Middle Ages and Renaissance dance, song, and Commedia dell’Arte while visiting the Rosen House, learning about falconry from Caramoor’s resident falconer, and touring the center’s extensive art collection. Tours of the Rosen House and gardens are lead by a professional architect that can answer any design questions your scout group may have. Scouts are welcome to complete a fun scavenger hunt during the tour.
