DESTINATIONS

ABOUT

Lillian and Albert Small Jewish Museum

Give your class an unforgettable experience at the Lillian & Albert Small Jewish Museum. In the historic 1876 synagogue, students will learn about its history and preservation while creating models, learn about the Jewish immigrant experience in Washington DC by analyzing primary source materials, and unlock the mysteries of the historic building. Walking tours will show students former synagogue buildings, Jewish businesses, and homes in the "old Jewish neighborhood" of downtown DC, now known as Judiciary Square and Chinatown. The Society also offers a living history program that tells the entertaining and true life story of Anna Shulman, her arrival in the U.S. and in Washington, and her impact on the H Street neighborhood, home to Jewish merchants in the 1920s and 1930s.
