FIELD TRIPS
School groups of 8 or more students can take a guided tour through each of Shofuso’s rooms to learn the purpose and significance of the main features of the site. They’ll be able to recognize elements of traditional Japanese houses that are still found in Japanese homes today. Students will be required to remove their shoes before entering the house. (Please contact JASGP with any specific questions or concerns regarding accessibility.)
In addition to a tour of the house, groups can participate in a variety of enriching cultural activities. Grades 3 or higher can enjoy a tea tasting, during which they’ll hear the history of tea in Japan, learn about the tea ceremony, and prepare a bowl of matcha green tea. JASGP also offers a fun, staff-led origami lesson for all ages and skill levels, as well as a kamishibai storytelling experience that offers a delightful and dramatic telling of Japanese folktales.
