A trip to the Zoo teaches student about animals, wildlife and what they can do to help preserve the planet’s natural resources. The Zoo offers convenient parking for buses, discounted group ticket rates, free picnic areas outside of the Zoo’s entrance, catering options, free tram service and well as lots of fun!

The Zoo is the world’s largest natural habitat zoo, sitting on 2,600 total acres and serves up a variety of fun programs for school groups at all grade levels. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the gold standard in animal care. Students will learn about animals from all over the world as well as local, native species they can find in their backyards.

The giraffe’s tongue is black to prevent sunburn while eating in the hot sun. Their spots, which are as unique as humans fingerprints, are designed for camouflage. And they need less sleep than any other mammal, using the time instead to browse for food.

The North Carolina Zoo is the perfect place to make lifelong memories with family and friends. The Zoo welcomes guests from all backgrounds and has ADA accessible trails and bathrooms, stroller and wheelchair rental and nursing areas. The North Carolina Zoo offers a combination of free and paid, reserved picnic areas before entering the Zoo’s gates. The beautiful, natural settings of our picnic areas enhance gatherings for any event, from birthday parties to company outings to family reunions.
