Staten Island Children’s Museum

Located on the grounds of Sailor’s Snug Harbor, this children’s museum is surrounded by gardens and a large outdoor play space. Learning is made fun and interactive through hands-on programs, exhibits, and themed activities. Learn about environments in the Great Explorations exhibit, or explore the carpentry of a child-sized house. Crawl through a human-sized anthill, climb into a tugboat and try fishing, and more. or watch butterflies being born; there’s even a collection of arthropods! Guided programs involve fun, hands-on workshops.

The first children’s museum in the world was the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, founded in 1899. Hundreds of children’s museums have opened in the United States since then. As of 2007, the Association of Children’s Museums estimated that there were approximately 80 children’s museums in development alone.
