National Museum of American History

The National Museum of American History gives students an opportunity to explore the infinite richness and complexity of American history. Students will learn the story behind our national anthem, consider the roles of the President, explore Americans' sacrifice in wartime, discover 200 years of family history in a New England house, and more. The museum offers daily programs including hands-on object carts and self-guides on topics such as transportation and maritime history. In addition, students can take an American history personality quiz and find objects especially for them with the colorful Discoverer, Innovator, Naturalist, and Storyteller guides. Within the varied exhibits, students may see historic artifacts of the nation's transportation system, a fragment of Plymouth Rock, the ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, Julia Child's home kitchen with a display on food history, the Gunboat Philadelphia, early patent models and inventions, a bulb from a public demonstration of Edison's light in Menlo Park, and much more.
