Brandywine River Museum of Art

Known for its collection of works from the Wyeth family, the Brandywine River Museum of Art's galleries encompass American landscapes and still life paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries. Groups can also get a glimpse at history by booking a tour of Andrew Wyeth’s studio, the N.C. Wyeth House & Studio, or the nearby Kuerner Farm, which was the subject of hundreds of the painter’s works. Holiday tours are also available from from Thanksgiving through the beginning of January. Educational programs connect art to social studies, environmental science, language arts, and math. Be sure to stop by the museum's Millstone Café for a bite to eat!

FUN FACTS

– Vincent Van Gogh created over 2,000 works during his lifetime. However, he was only ever able to sell one of his paintings while he was alive.

– Leonardo Da Vinci was left-handed. He took notes from right-to-left instead of the English language standard left-to-right.

– Pablo Picasso was arrested and questioned regarding the theft of Mona Lisa in 1911. He was released without being charged.

– In late 1961, Henri Matisse’s painting “Le Bateau” was hung upside down at the Museum of Modern Art in New York for 46 days before anyone noticed.
