Students will learn all about the unique ecosystems of southeastern North Carolina on an environmental education boat tour with Wrightsville Beach Scenic Tours. Field trips allow students to get hands-on while identifying carnivorous swamps at the Green Swamp, discovering black water Cyprus at Town Creek, and looking for shorebird ecosystems at Masonboro and Hutaff Islands. Activities include studying coastal plants, examining tidal creek water quality, and collecting seashells and coastal marine invertebrate at the Cape Fear Local Barrier Islands. Field trips align with NC Standard Course of Study.

Scouts

Scout groups can work on Nature, Bird Study, and a variety of other science-related badges on excursions with Wrightsville Beach Scenic Tours. Scouts will love Fall Migratory Bird Tours, which give scouts a chance to see Black Skimmers, Piping Plovers, Clapper Rails, Oystercatchers and other birds. Other tours take scouts to Cape Fear Local Barrier Islands include to learn how to identify coastal plants, collect coastal marine invertebrate, and more. Scouts are also welcome aboard for holiday themed boat rides throughout the year.

Homeschoolers will learn about the function of barrier islands, mollusk ecology, shorebirds, and much more. Field trip activities can include collecting shells, a walk to the jetty, fishing, and a discussion on beach erosion. Fall Migratory Bird Tours are also available.
