Students will marvel at the building’s Romanesque Revival architecture and explore the interior on a tour of the New York State Capitol. A special Women’s Suffrage Tour is available in March, which aims to teach students about the historic fight for suffrage in New York, the crusaders of the women’s movement, and the state’s first female legislators. School groups can schedule a meeting with their legislator after touring the State Capitol. Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance.

Students, scouts, homeschoolers, and campers can take a tour of the New York State Capitol—the seat of government for New York State—and walk the hallways where history was shaped. Built in the late 19th century, the capitol building features portraits, informational signs, a timeline, and museum-styled exhibits on New York State’s history to help aid groups in learning about the New York State government. Groups will see the Flag Room, the Governor’s Reception Room, the Great Western Staircase, the Capitol Fire Exhibit, and more. Tours are available on weekdays and weekends.

Scouts

Scout groups can work on Architecture and various history-based badges on tours of the New York State Capitol. Designed by three teams of architects (1867–1875: Thomas Fuller, 1875–1883: Leopold Eidlitz and Henry Hobson Richardson, 1883–1899: Isaac G. Perry), scouts will behold the building’s Romanesque Revival architecture before exploring the interior of the building. Be sure to schedule a meeting with your legislator after touring the State Capitol. Reservations must be made at least two weeks before your desired tour date.
