Field Trips

The Pember Museum of Natural History includes 10,000 objects covering a wide variety of natural history subjects. Specimens include vertebrate and invertebrate animals, rocks and minerals, fossils, some anthropological and historical materials, and a herbarium.

Proctors Theatre began as a vaudeville theatre in the early 20th century and is now the Capital Region’s destination for major Broadway shows, cutting-edge film festivals, exciting special events, and everything in between.

On over 436 acres at the Ramshorn-Livingston Sanctuary, see the Hudson River’s largest tidal swamp forest, visit a major feeding area for migratory birds, and a breeding ground for American shad and bass and more.

Round Top Raptor Center is a unique place where visitors have the opportunity to watch hawks up close. There are approximately 10 different species of hawks and falcons at the Center.

The Connect-Kids-to-Parks Field Trip Grant Program (Connect Kids) is designed to connect students in New York State with nature and history. Each grant provides reimbursement of up to $40 per student (and $80 for Special Education students) for field trips to state and federal parks, forests, historic sites, fish hatcheries and outdoor recreation areas.

ELIGIBILITY: School districts, charter schools, municipalities, and select not-for-profits in New York State.

The Museum houses the Hyde Collection featuring more than 3,000 objects. See tapestries, paintings, and sculptures from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. See art created by Rembrandt, Rubens, Renoir, and Picasso.

At the Ndakinna Education Center, guests learn about Northeast Native culture and awareness of the natural world. Topics include wilderness and survival skills, ecology and nature studies, Adirondack and Native culture, and more.

The Pine Hollow Arboretum is a 25-acre nature preserve. The arboretum’s collection consists of over 3,300 unique trees, shrubs and other woody plants from around the world.

The Theatre Institute at Sage is dedicated to providing quality live theatre and arts-in-education programming to Capital Region youth, educators and residents.

Up Yonda Farm on 73 acres with a spectacular view overlooking Lake George offers nature programs on topics include Natural History and Wildlife. Explore woodland trails, perennial gardens, a butterfly garden and more.

On the USS Slater-DE766, the last destroyer escort afloat in the US, groups tour watch and battle stations. Guests learn about honor on the ship and the experiences and tools of the sailors who were part of the Allied Forces.
